February Workshop Notice
When: 10:00a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019
Where: Eden Community Center, 710 Elgin Street, San Lorenzo
Instructor: Sonali Hosui Vagholikar and Kathy Suiyu Toy
Theme: Hana-kanade FEE $20*
Container and materials: Choice A: Round suiban, 3 kenzan, and 3-5 materials
Choice B: Three containers with 3-5 materials
The theme for February’s workshop is Hana-kanade. The verb form of “kanade” is “kanaderu” meaning to play music with musical instruments or having voices come together to make music. In ikebana, this translates into a three-dimensional arrangement with long intersecting lines that come together like a music composition. It is the newest Ohara arrangement style created by the current Headmaster, Hiroki Ohara.
For this workshop, you can select one of two types of arrangements to create. The first one requires a round suiban, three small or fan shaped kenzans, and three types of materials (see the first and third examples below) with one or two additional materials for the base. Please note that the base must not be too heavy or crowded. The second choice can be three containers with three to five materials (see the second example below). It is helpful if the main material stems (for both choices) have length and beautiful curves.
Sonali Vagholikar will be our instructor at this workshop and will be assisted by Kathy Toy. Both have created awe inspiring Hana-kanade arrangements in recent exhibitions. If you have questions about this workshop, you can contact them at [email protected] or [email protected] .
THOSE PLANNING TO ATTEND MUST RSVP TO SUIRYO GILLI AT 971-533-9314 OR EMAIL HER AT [email protected]
NOTE: BOARD MEMBERS, THERE WILL BE A BOARD MEETING AFTER THE WORKSHOP.
*This workshop is open to all chapter members.
Guests are welcome to attend for a $20 fee (which increases to $25 after 2 visits). Guests should be sponsored by a member and the member must notify the workshop committee in advance.
